David Townson /
David has been working as a designer and design manager for the last twenty years. His work has involved the innovation of such things as; returnable transit packaging, knowledge management systems, cat flaps, educational programmes, online courses for aspiring playwrights and automated banking services.
Following spells in both the manufacturing and service sectors and a brief stint in academia, David joined service design pioneers live|work in 2005 as Director of their North East studio. In 2008, he set up as an independent product and service development strategist. He works with people and organisations of all sizes - from small firms to multinational corporates, in private, public and third sectors - to create new product and service offers or improve existing ones. To do this, he may work with clients in a one-to-one capacity; a sort of design management 'gun for hire'. It may also see him working with other colleagues, associates and networks to ensure a client is tapping into a wider pool of resources.
David holds a Masters with Distinction in Design, Strategy and Innovation from Brunel University. He is a UK Design Council Design Associate working on both their public and private sector improvement programmes. David is also external examiner to the University of the Arts / Cranfield University MDes in Service Innovation.
